7th Grade's Blue Dog- Art Class

George Rodrigue standing next to his work in the above picture.   My 7th grade students watched a video showing George painting and discussing Blue Dog.   Students drew a basic drawing of Blue Dog.   After they completed their drawing, students had the opportunity to create their own background, details and decide the color of their dog.  I absolutely loved the creativity my students poured into their drawing!

Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort.

our big guy....

Hawk Man

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive. ~Gilda Radner

commisioned piece - be brave

I was asked by a local private school to come up with a shield that would be a reminder to students (K-5) to be brave.  Students who stand up for others, stand up to bullies, help out their friends....etc... will be rewarded a paper shield with their name on it and be displayed around the painted shield.  My son Oscar thought a little "Captain America" feel would enhance the shield.  I went with his advice.

Courage, Honor, Loyalty, Sacrifice. You're braver than you think.

use what you have

This past fall I was longing for a tall pair of dark vintage boots.   It's not like I'm in need of more boots so I looked through my collection considering which pair could be altered.  My ten yr. old Frye boots were looking worn and I'm not really into the light colored leather.  So....I went crazy and added some wood stain to my Fryes.  Yes, they were omitting fumes for awhile but the fumes have passed and I love them more then ever.  Cheers to using what you have.......

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

7th grade manga self-portraits

This art lesson came from the website:

http://artisandesarts.blogspot.ca/2013/06/the-worlds-best-grade-6-grad-portraits.html

7th graders created a manga portrait of themselves in the computer lab on faceyourmanga.com.
Students studied the vintage art of Japanese manga.  Students had to draw a large scale portrait of their creation on face your manga.com.

guitar color wheel - 7th grade art class

Thank you Pinterest....I saw this lesson on Pinterest and my seventh graders loved it.  We looked at famous guitar design of past and present.   Students created their own guitar along with making their own value scale with mixing their own color wheel.

There are not more than five primary colors (blue, yellow, red, white, and black), yet in combination they produce more hues than can ever been seen

6th grade giacometti sculptures

Alberto Giacometti

This was a super fun project completed by my 6th grade art students.  It's an old lesson but good...These kiddos came up with some pretty creative ideas after studying some of Giacometti's sculptures.

Once the object has been constructed, I have a tendency to discover in it, transformed and displaced, images, impressions, facts which have deeply moved me.
